Our Galactic Neighborhood

This is a simulation of almost 110,000 charted stars in our galaxy, with our sun and earth at the center. Each star is accurately colored and proportionately scaled based on its absolute magnitude. Sliders allow you to zoom in and out, and see how the stars and constellations are moving over the eons (NOTE: no gravity calculations, just based on linear velocity so kind of a rough estimate).

Very special thanks to astronexus.com for their Hyg stellar database and to Pierre Barbier for his asterism definitions.

I am not a scientist, but if you are, and have ideas about how this simulation might be improved, I would love to talk to you about it, drop me a line.
